The Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres meet Sunday in MLB action at Petco Park.
The Cincinnati Reds look for another win to build on their three-game winning streak. The Reds have scored 11 runs in their last three games and three or more runs in 10 of their last 13 games. The Cincinnati Reds are 7-6 this season when scoring three or more runs. Eugenio Suarez leads the Reds with 15 hits and eight RBI while Joey Votto and Jesse Winker have combined for 26 hits and 14 RBI. Tyler Mahle gets the ball, and he is 0-1 with a 2.65 ERA and 15 strikeouts this season. Mahle is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 10 strikeouts in his career against the Padres.
The San Diego Padres could use a win here to snap a six-game losing streak. The Padres have allowed 11 runs in their last three games and three or more runs in their last seven games. The San Diego Padres are 5-11 this season when allowing three or more runs. Offensively, Fernando Tatis Jr. leads the Padres with 22 hits and 13 RBI while Wil Myers and Manny Machado have combined for 40 hits and 18 RBI. Joey Lucchesi gets the ball, and he is 2-2 with a 5.06 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season. This will be Lucchesi’s first career game against the Reds.
The Reds are 0-5 in their last 5 during game 4 of a series, 0-4 in Mahle’s last 4 road starts and 1-7 in Mahle’s last 8 starts. The Padres are 32-66 in their last 98 Sunday games, 0-5 in their last 5 games on grass and 2-8 in Lucchesi’s last 10 starts with 5 days of rest. The Reds are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and the over is 10-3 in the last 13 meetings. The under is 4-1 in Lucchesi’s last 5 starts overall. The under is 38-16-1 in Reds last 55 overall.
The San Diego Padres can’t put together offense and have lost six straight games. Lucchesi has allowed 14 hits and 12 earned runs in his last 11 innings of work. The Cincinnati Reds aren’t world beaters by any means and sweeping a four-game series isn’t easy no matter the teams, but it’s tough to make a case for the Padres to be favored given their current form. I kind of want to take the Reds and the plus money just off the value. I can’t lay juice with the Padres given how poor they’ve been this last week or so.
