Lil Yachty Says He Wrote Most of City Girls’ “Act Up” – XXLMAG.COM

Lil Yachty asserts that he’s the one who penned City Girls’ standout song, “Act Up”—well, at least most of it.

During an interview with Kerwin Frost, the Quality Control signee said that, besides J.T.’s final verse, he wrote all of the EarlThePearll-produced record, which currently sits at No. 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“When it came out, people was so shocked and they didn’t believe it,” Yachty says about the song. “I wrote the whole song except for J.T.’s last verse, but everything that everyone is singing and all, I wrote the whole thing.”

Yachty is listed as one of three writers on “Act Up” off theirGirl Codealbum along with producer EarlThePearll and Jatavia “J.T.” Johnson. Caresha “Yung Miami” Brownlee does not have a writing credit on the song, but she does bring it to life on every stage she touches.

“I just thought like them,” Yachty later explains. “I know them personally and I know what women like to hear. I was like, ‘What’s some raunchy shit?’ So before I went in the booth, I said, ‘No homo y’all.’ Because all my boys was in the room. And I started saying just crazy shit. But I came out and I was like, ‘Y’all watch, this is about to blow up.’”

At another point of the interview, Yachty says that he’s invested $1 million into his Sailing Team collective only to see his investment go unrewarded.
